LARK LANE LOVE

At Hafla Hafla there’s no denying our love for Lark Lane. The street is full of character and characters. It’s full of life and has a sense of separation from the busy hustle of the city centre. “I grew up a stone’s throw away from the beautiful, Bohemian street and worked many shifts at the iconic and much loved; Keith’s Wine Bar. The street has always had a special place in my heart for its heaps of character, friendly people and the sheer amount of independents businesses that thrive here. I always had it in my mind “one day I’ll have a place of my own along here” and now here we are, a few months off and I can’t believe how lucky I am to get to be a part of this special place so many people love. I really feel like we’ll fit in with the area and hopefullyoffer something new to locals.”
Have a read of the @independentliverpool article – “A love letter to Lark Lane”
for a beautiful summary of why it holds a place in the people of Liverpool’s
hearts. There’s even a cheeky mention of Hafla hafla...

WE LOVE YOU, LITTLE FURNACE

Hafla’s top till girl and part-time blogger Becky B visits long-time friends Little Furnace on Smithdown Road,
and sums up why they will forever be one of our favourites.

Hafla Hafla first met the Little Furnace boys up in Leeds, when we both had a spot at the street-food
space of Trinity Kitchen way, way back. A beautiful friendship developed: from the crazy nights out
after Trinity back when we were young and foolish, to Little Furnace’s Peter helping us tile our very
first Baltic Market stand when the market first opened in June last year, and now, Hafla are over the
moon to have our very own sauce named after us at the first Little Furnace restaurant on
Smithdown!

HAPPY HAFLA BIRTHDAY

WOW – it’s already coming up to one whole year since Baltic Market opened its doors to the people
of Liverpool and the people of Liverpool opened their hearts to our halloumi fries. We have had an
absolute whirlwind year over at Hafla Hafla: we have met thousands upon thousands of incredible
people, gained many loyal customers and learned so much about who and what we want to
represent. We have said goodbye to some fabulous team members and welcomed many equally
fabulous ones, one of us has graduated, one of us has landed a swanky chef job in France, we have
celebrated the first birthday of our very own mini Hafla team member, we have had setbacks and
celebrations. We have been featured in ‘Time Out’ magazine and, most incredibly, in only one year
we have managed to make our dream of expanding and becoming a restaurant a reality!
We would like to thank all those who have supported us in our journey so far, to the people who tell
us that they have travelled down to the Baltic just for our halloumi fries, to those who come up to
the stall after scranning their pitta to tell us how much they enjoyed it, and simply to every single
person who has paid us a visit and kept us going: we love you! The Baltic Market’s 1 st Birthday
Bonanza will take place on the 28 th -1 st July. Keep your eyes peeled on our Instagram page for updates on what to expect!

NEW HALLOUMI FLAVOURS

With the arrival of our brand-new Spring/Summer menu came two brand new halloumi fries, and it seems that they have been going down a treat so far! Your beloved Salt & Pepper have remained, but we also want to formally introduce you to the newcomers. Firstly, we have Sumac, Lime & Chilli, which is our signature golden halloumi fries tossed in a delicious concoction of the above spices, and finished with an assortment of Hafla house dipping sauces. This one is perfect for those who can’t quite decide! Our new Pomegranate & Tomato (pictured) halloumi fries also cannot be missed, and they come topped with a juicy and vibrant tomato & mint salsa, a drizzle of our homemade tahini and a further drizzle of our sticky pomegranate molasses sauce, and finally, finished with a healthy dollop of zhoug. Delicious!

THIS ONE'S FOR GED

Gerard Christian, or Ged to anyone who knows him, is the amazing man who supplies us with our delicious & fresh fruit and veg every week and, unbeknownst to him, he’s become a massive part of Hafla Hafla. Ged, the absolute legend, gets up at quarter past three every morning, completing deliveries, being a top bloke and running his family business in the city centre – you’ve probably seen him and his colourful stall set up outside Clayton Square on Ranelagh Street! Ask any trader in Liverpool and they’ll have heard of Ged, and we can’t thank him enough for his hard work and incredible service. Ged, you (and your delicious produce) always brighten our day!

LARK LANE LODGINGS

The team can’t wait to introduce you to our first ever restaurant – opening Summer 2018 on Liverpool’s iconic Lark Lane. Those five planks of wood which held together the very first Hafla stall are quivering with pride as our beautiful new lodgings slowly come together as we type, and we can’t wait for you to see it!

Lark Lane, or simply The Lane to the locals, is the perfect location for us at Hafla. If you’ve somehow not yet visited, it’s an eclectic mix of independent and bohemian shops and restaurants just south of the centre, and we can’t wait to squeeze right into the middle of it all. Don’t fret – you’ll still be able to get your halloumi fix at Baltic Market, but we’re so excited to expand our kitchen, menu and team. Watch this space for more information about our big opening.

NEW SPRING MENU

OUR NEW SUMMER MENU IS HERE!

No need to fret, the signature falafel wrap is staying. Our falafel bowls now come one-size-fits-all, with a side of delicious chilli & broccoli mash, seasonal salad, house tabbouleh, spring pickles, warm pitta bread and a weekly special hummus. You can still get your beloved salt and pepper fries, but you’ll also want to try our two brand new flavours!

Try our vegetarian Arayes, the Middle Eastern answer to a quesadilla, filled with refried spiced chickpeas, a pepper and tomato salsa and gloriously finished with feta cheese. And finally, our Hafla Hafla homemade sweet potato fries make their long-awaited return: they cannot be missed.

HAFLA NEEDS YOU

As you know, our first restaurant will be opening in the coming months and we are looking to expand our tight-knit team. Are you passionate, creative and interested in thrilling food and flavours? Do you fancy joining a fun, young, independent business and helping us cook up a storm for the people of Liverpool? If so, we need you!

Take a look at the JOBS section for our current openings, or simply sling your CV to haflahaflafalafel@gmail.com and let us know why you’d fit right in.

MEET THE MAKERS OF OUR PERFECT PITTA

Rough Hand Made are the incredible architects of our famous pitta bread. The lovely husband-and-wife-(and-their-kids!) team prepare everything fresh themselves each day, and any leftovers go to a local homeless shelter: we couldn’t love them any more if we tried! Take a look at their instagram here, or even better, follow the glorious smell and find them on Penny Lane in the Mossley Hill area.

Follow us on Instagram and keep up to date with our changing 'Pitta of the Week', and let us know what you think of the Hafla-Rough Hand Made fusion (although we’re already sure you’ll love it).

THERE’S SOMETHING FOR ALL OF YOU

Here at Hafla Hafla, we are dedicated to producing delicious food to be enjoyed by everyone, and so we are pleased to announce that our entire Baltic Market menu is vegetarian-friendly. As well as that, all of our halloumi fries, sweet potato fries and our house-made falafel are now gluten-free. And calling all vegans! – of course, we cater for you too. Our pittas are vegan, and we have searched high and low for the most delicious vegan wraps to immerse our famous vegan-friendly falafel within, and our toasted pumpkin wraps do the job perfectly!

Come down and taste a little piece of the Middle East in Liverpool, and let us know of any dietary requirements: we’ll always strive to cater for you all. We can’t wait to see you soon.
